FIRM & HISTORY

Bradley Architects Inc. began in 1898 as the one person office of architect George C. Harding. Harding, a Pittsfield native and Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate, which was the beginning of a succession of firms that would last more than 100 years.

In 1901, Harding took architect Henry M. Seaver into partnership. The firm of Harding & Seaver was created and became one of the most successful in Western Massachusetts. Among the firm’s buildings are the Lenox Town Hall, the Berkshire Museum, the Clapp Memorial “Nursess” Building and Edward A. Jones Memorial Building at Berkshire Medical Center, the YMCA and the former Plunkett School.

The firm was purchased in 1948 by architect Prentice Bradley and his partner, Douglas Gass. The firm of Bradley & Gass operated until 1955 when Bradley became the sole proprietor operating under the Office of Prentice Bradley. Bradley was a graduate of Dartmouth and Harvard. His projects included Wahconah Regional High School, Wahconah Park and Grandstands, additions to Highland, Allendale and Williams schools and to St. Stephen’s church.

In 1971, Bradley took on three new architects, Jonathan Rose, Jack A. Barbara and Starbuck Smith III. The new firm became Bradley Architects Inc.

In 2014, Robert E. Harrison, A licensed architect in Massachusetts, New York and Vermont, joined now-retired Robert MacIntosh at Bradley Architects, Inc. as a principal. Robert brings to Bradley over 30 years of experience as a practicing architect in Berkshire County both as the founding principal of Blueline Design and Harrison Design Associates.

In January, 2018, Mark S. Eichorn officially joined Bradley Architects Inc. as a principal in the firm. Mark brings to the firm over 25 years of experience in the Northeast, Midwest, and Southeast. He has worked on projects that have included municipal, high-end condominiums, single-family homes, hotels, retail stores, resorts, banks, amusement parks, and paper mills.
